La misión del FICM es incrementar la oferta cinematográfica, contribuir al fomento de las actividades culturales y turísticas del estado de Michoacán y, sobre todo, promover a los nuevos talentos del cine mexicano. </font><span style="line-height: 1.42857143; font-family: Garamond;">La esencia de la programación del FICM es la competencia, exclusiva para trabajos mexicanos y dividida en cuatro secciones: S</span><span style="line-height: 1.42857143; font-family: Garamond;">ección Michoacana, Cortometraje Mexicano, Documental Mexicano</span><span style="line-height: 1.42857143; font-family: Garamond;"> y </span><span style="line-height: 1.42857143; font-family: Garamond;">Largometraje Mexicano</span><span style="line-height: 1.42857143; font-family: Garamond;">. En la competencia del FICM han participado jóvenes cineastas como Elisa Miller, Michel Franco, David Pablos, Natalia Beristain, Alonso Ruizpalacios y Fernando Eimbcke, entre otros que han colocado en alto el nombre del cine mexicano a nivel internacional. </span></p><p class="MsoNormal" style="text-align:justify"><span style="line-height: 1.42857143; font-family: Garamond;">A lo largo de su historia, el FICM ha tenido el honor de recibir a </span><span style="line-height: 1.42857143; font-family: Garamond;">invitados distinguidos</span><span style="line-height: 1.42857143; font-family: Garamond;"> como Olivier Assayas, Javier Bardem, Demián Bichir, Juliette Binoche, Alfonso Cuarón, Geraldine Chaplin, Amat Escalante, Gael García Bernal, Terry Gilliam, Michel Gondry, Alejandro González Iñárritu, Salma Hayek, Werner Herzog, Alejandro Jodorowsky, Abbas Kiarostami, Jennifer Lawrence, Tommy Lee Jones, Pawel Pawlikowski, Marisa Paredes, Carlos Reygadas, Robert Rodriguez, Volker Schlöndorff, Steven Soderbergh, Quentin Tarantino, Béla Tarr, Guillermo del Toro, Danny Trejo y Gus Van Sant entre muchos otros. </span></p><p class="MsoNormal" style="text-align:justify"><span style="line-height: 1.42857143; font-family: Garamond;">El 13º FICM se llevará a cabo del </span><span style="line-height: 1.42857143; font-family: Garamond;">23 de octubre al 1 de noviembre de 2015.</span><span style="line-height: 1.42857143; font-family: Garamond;"> Además de las películas en competencia, la </span><span style="line-height: 1.42857143; font-family: Garamond;">programación del FICM</span><span style="line-height: 1.42857143; font-family: Garamond;"> se complementa con estrenos mexicanos e internacionales, retrospectivas de diversos directores, películas de la Semana de la Crítica del Festival de Cannes, conferencias, funciones al aire libre y eventos en distintos puntos de la ciudad. El FICM es </span><span style="line-height: 1.42857143; font-family: Garamond;">abierto al público</span><span style="line-height: 1.42857143; font-family: Garamond;"> y se puede asistir a la mayoría de las proyecciones comprando un boleto en taquilla.
